Sarah Confer

Sarah has been travelling and volunteering in Peru since 2006, when she first became enamoured with the cultures, the people and the landscape. A textile conservator by trade, she has returned to Peru every year to co-lead workshops as well as an undergraduate study abroad program on textile conservation, and also presented a paper on the traditional weaving at a professional conference held in Lima.

Sarah first became involved with Mosqoy and Q’ente in 2009, at a time when she was searching for a way to make a bigger impact in Peru, and to contribute to the movement to strengthen and revitalize the Quechua weaving tradition which she had come to admire deeply. When a chance email was forwarded to her from Mosqoy in late 2008, she knew she had found what she was looking for.

Since then, her regular trips to Peru have mostly included time spent hiking in the Andes, visiting with Mosqoy and Q’ente’s partner weaving communities.

When not in Peru, Sarah likes to call Vancouver home.
