Andean Youth Program Student Sponsor Spotlight
Hello from Cusco and the Andean Youth Program! We are excited to introduce Apus Peru and El Albergue, two of our Peru-based student sponsors who help us make our program possible. These businesses support educational and leadership opportunities for high achieving students from the Sacred Valley and Mapacho River Valley regions of Peru.
Apus Peru Adventure Travel Specialists is an adventure trekking company providing travellers with sustainable and environmentally responsible travel to lesser known wilderness locations. Founded in 2005, Apus Peru is committed to responsible tourism and strives to support Andean communities by giving back. Not only does Apus Peru support Mosqoy’s Andean Youth Program, but it also contributes a portion of every trek cost to Peruvian not-for-profit, Threads of Peru.
We are excited that Apus Peru is supporting tourism student, Fernando Echame Melo. As an official tour guide, Fernando hopes to teach travelers about his community and their weaving traditions. Thank you to Apus Peru for helping to turn Fernando’s dreams into reality!

El Albergue is a beautiful, family-run lodge located next to the Ollantaytambo train station, about an hour away from Machu Picchu. Opened originally in 1925 as lodge Santa Rosa, today El Albergue has grown to include a restaurant and a small organic farming project that provides visitors with fresh, locally grown vegetables. Valuing environmental responsibility, El Albergue has a zero trash goal for the hotel, which means inventive solutions for what would be trash. Paper, for example, is used as kindling for their eucalyptus steam sauna, which is included in the price of the room.
El Albergue also values social responsibility, and as of this year is supporting the Andean Youth Program as a student sponsor for Ollantaytambo native, Jaime Alvarez Molina. Jaime just began his studies in Culinary Arts at the Khipu Institute and we are excited to watch him grow as a chef throughout his studies. He will surely pick up some tips about creating seasonal dishes with farm fresh ingredients from the restaurant at El Albergue!
